"What I read today, 06 Jul 2009, 0900-1200"
My learning session start today in School of Housing, Building & Planning, USM. Because of this, i woke up early in the morning, wear on my finest cloth. As I enter the lecturer hall, I could see Mr. Wan Burhanuddin is already there, even though it is not 0900 yet.
At 0900, Mr. Wan Burhanuddin begin to give his speech about one's good timing. He shown us a website that is www.worldtimeserver.com. This website is about time that has been set up accurately in every zone on Earth. He also explain that most student have their time adjust wrongly. He called these people as human that live that carry "fake time" with them. He proven that different student have different time set up by their own. I believe that the interval time between peoples can make things become more difficult and misunderstanding.
Next, Mr. Wan Burhanuddin question us about meaning of read. Here are some examples of the meaning of read:
  1. [noun] something that is read; "the article was a very good read"

  2. [verb] interpret something that is written or printed; "read the advertisement"; "Have you read Salman Rushdie?"

There are too many meanings just to describe a single word "read", but in my view, it is a process of gainning information from various sources.
Later on, Mr. Burhanuddin introduce to us about intention hat create act, and act creat product. As i understood, intention must move by several actors in the first place. Then, they tend to make act which if limit by some factors such as rules and sustainbility. When the act is success, product will be form which take place or site to occur. I conclude that a quality product can only be form when people thought about extra ordinary intention, and wise action is taking on it. Document, effective communication, design, construct, and willing to serve, are several tools that is used in order to create a quality product.
Around 1030, students were given time to choose their group according to projects that they will involve later on. In the beginning, students seem blurry about what they are told to do so. After awhile, students are moving to choose their group. I could see some of them did not have patient at all. Everyone want to finish early.  As result, most of the forms we filled are tear up and broken. Even a teacher's book is missing.
At 1130, all students entered the lecturer hall, as Mr. Wan Burhanuddin has pause the "filling-form" session. He told us to creat our own website for our first assignment called "Project 1A myHome". He also told us to send our url to his website with two assignment that are "What I read today, 06 Jul 2009, 0900-1200" and "My Big Bang!". I wonder why not we just send this two assignment using our e-mail? Maybe he afraid us will spam his e-mail. Or hard to re-arrange those assignment. Who knows.
Mr. Wan Burhanuddin also mention us about plagiarism. Here are some meaning about plagiarism:

1. stealing somebody's work or idea:
the process of copying another person's idea or written work and claiming it as original

2. something plagiarized: a piece of written work or an idea that somebody has copied and claimed as his or her own

taken at: http://encarta.msn.com/dictionary_/plagiarism.html

He warn us never commit plagiarism because it is a crime. There is no quality or special about a person work who copy other's work. In my view, student who commit plagiarism will never produce a quality work of his own in the future.
Suddenly, I heard somebody's pen fall on the floor. Looking at my handphone, I realize it just 12 noon then..

"Big Bang!" - 06/07/09

Today is such a tiring day. In the evening, we attended a program called "Big Bang!", which involved senior students with us. I thought it is an exciting program, but it not turn to be so.
Those seniors told us that there will be another orientation program in this weekend, held by School of Housing, Building, and Planning. After given us a short briefing about the orientation, they ask us to gather according to our courses. The reason is for them to collect money more easy. We informed to pay RM36.00 for the orientation fee. People in the hall start murmuring because of the insanely high free just for one orientation. I myself thought it will be RM10.00 or around that price.
After that, a senior came out and explain to us about where the money will be spend on. This include breakfast, lunch, dinner, games, T-shirt, souvenir, hamper, and drinks during activities. He also tell us that this orientation will slightly affect our studio marks. The good explanation finally calm down the crowd. People start paying money, and I could see some of them borrow money from their friend. Anyway, I hope that the orientation will be fun and successful.
The orientation start on Thursday evening which take place on "Dataran Merah". This orientation will go on till Saturday night which we will have a grand dinner. I guess this dinner will be the last activity for our orientation.
Nearly 1600, it is Q&A session. Students start asking seniors about where "Dataran Merah" is. A senior answered it. Some student also complain about their actvities such as "Khidmat Masyarakat"(ko-ku) which the registration is on Thursday evening, and course LKM400(Bahasa Malaysia) on Friday evening. I did not know what the solution does the seniors take, but I do hope that al students will join the orientation.
Lastly, after note down the important dates and venues, we were allowed to go home.

HBP Orientation Week, "BIG BANG"

09/07/2009
Today we had no class because RMK153 was canceled. But at 5pm, we need to gather at E48B for our activity on the evening which was futsal game. From school of HBP, we walk to USM stadium. That evening, I have a bad stomach-ache and allowed to go back to hostel.

10/07/2009
After the morning class, we need to stay back because our senior will distribute the "Big Bang" T-shirt together with name tag which was our name tag is actually same and did not have our name written on it. At 2.30pm, all of us wear the "Big Bang" T-shirt for the opening ceremony of our orientation. Before that, we were divided into groups and i was in group 15. The dean was there and he officially open the ceremony, therefor, our orientation begin. In the evening, it was futsal again. I wonder are there any games beside futsal? Which all students can participate together.
That night, I gather with my group and all groups are given a task to form their group name and set up a cheer. We named our group as "One Gang, One Big Bang". Our action is just like soldier, and we were the last group to perform. It was very fun. Got senior comment that my face look fierce.

11/07/2009
In the morning, we were given task to built a product which made from straw, plastic, newspaper, and strengthen with nylon robe. The rule is to protect an egg from cracking when throw from a third floor building. After some hard work and doing several annoying experiments, we have made a parachute which the lower part consist of straw, and in the middle was the egg that we need to protect. In evening, we perform our product, to throw it from third floor without making the egg crack. Luckily, our product did not spoil the egg.
During night, it was raining heavily. Plus, the event for that night was explore race. So, only few people come. Our group 15 was combined with group 16. The total groups now were 8 groups. The game make us look very dirty and messy. We need to play with flour mixed with eggs, some IQ games, dancing, singing and drama(we do as what seniors ask us to do). Only one thing amazed me that night, that is balancing 10 nails over one single screw. I have learn a lot that night. 12.30am, we all go back to hostel. I get myself cleaned and went to bed at 2am.

12/07/2009
During the day, we have no activities, except to prepare ourself for the performance tonight(Grand Diner). Our group was selected to do drama based on movie metamorphose. The whole day, we search internet, gather up all materials, and practise on the the performance for tonight. At night, it was "Grand Diner". We all are force to wear a mask, which the western called this event as masquerade. Although it was grand diner, but the food was like camping food. Dr. Aldrin done the closing ceremony with his speech and advise. After that, is the group performing. Our group is the second group to perform, so that later we can watch other groups performance.
The seniors also take part to do their performing. Some of them really have nice vocal and sang quite amazing. The event end nearly 1am. Some of the groups won prizes, but our group won nothing. It was a tiring day, plus we also have class at tomorrow morning.

OVERALL, THE ORIENTATION WAS QUITE FUN AND TEACHING. I HAVE ENJOYED THERE, LEARN A LOT OF THINGS FROM SENIORS AND FRIENDS, EVEN MET SEVERAL NEW FRIENDS. I HOPE THAT THE ORIENTATION CAN MAKE OUR RELATION BECOME MORE CLOSER.
